Playing / Non-Playing Captain | Private Wealth | A Leading Wealth Management Co.

Scope of the Role

Role Definition: Playing Captain Vs. Non-Playing Captain
  • Playing Captain

A Playing Captain functions both as a Relationship Manager (RM) and a Team Leader. This dual role involves directly managing a portfolio of HNW/UHNW clients while also leading a team of Private Bankers. The individual is expected to drive both personal and team-level revenue, ensuring optimal client service and performance.

  • Non-Playing Captain
A Non-Playing Captain acts as a strategic coach and senior leader. This role is purely team-focused, overseeing a group of senior Private Bankers and Playing Captains. Responsibilities include mentoring, performance management, strategic planning, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities (applicable to both roles)

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients.

  • Understand clients’ financial goals and provide tailored wealth management solutions.

  • Offer investment advisory, portfolio management, and risk management services.

  • Cross-sell a full suite of banking products including loans, deposits, insurance, and investments.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., investment advisors, credit, legal, compliance) to deliver comprehensive financial solutions.

  • Monitor client portfolios and provide ongoing strategic guidance and performance updates.

  • Conduct client due diligence, KYC, and risk assessments in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Stay abreast of market trends, financial instruments, and regulatory developments.

Ideal Candidates

  • The candidate (whether a Playing or Non-Playing Captain) should ideally join the new firm along with their current team of experienced Private Bankers and Relationship Managers.

  • Alternatively, they must have the ability to identify, attract, and onboard high-performing RMs from within the private banking industry.

  • Must take full ownership of the team’s P&L, ensuring that RMs are equipped to manage clients independently while meeting business and compliance objectives.

  • Demonstrated leadership in building teams, driving revenue growth, and establishing strong client relationships in the private banking space.
